Morris Minor Restoration
Post-war British engineering is rightly hailed as a golden age for the automotive industry, as dozens of brands looked use the knowledge picked up building tanks and aircraft.
Famous names like Jaguar, Aston Martin, Bentley and Rolls Royce are better known for their racing and design exploits, but making perhaps a bigger mark than all of them was Morris Motors’ famous Morris Minor. Designed to be the world’s best small car, the Morris Minor was aimed squarely at a growing market of first generation car owners, boasting modern styling and a spacious interior alongside the latest brakes and gearbox. While underpowered, the original Morris Minor was known for its exceptional handling and maneuverability, something that made it perfect for British roads before the motorways.
Becoming the first British car to sell more than a million vehicles, and one of the longest lived vehicles in history without a major re-design, the Morris Minor has become an icon of British life in the 1950s and 1960s. The Morris Minor and its ash-framed estate variant became fixtures on British driveways until the car stopped production in 1974, well regarded for being initially affordable and easy for an amateur to maintain on their driveway. The Morris Minor was built in such numbers that there are still many well-maintained examples on the road today, as well as freely available spare parts for replacements and modifications that make it an easy vehicle to keep running.
