Triumph Restoration
Like many British manufacturers emerging from war production in the 1940s and 50s, the Triumph response to a depressed economy and a Europe-wide parts shortage was to look to the booming American market as a source of sales.
Unlike Jaguar and MG, Triumph didn’t have much early success, creating pre-war inspired cars that failed to capture the American imagination. To remedy this problem, the design teams went back to the drawing board to find a solution, coming up with a project codenamed ‘The Bomb’, which would become the Triumph Spitfire.
The Spitfire was designed to reflect the fighter aircraft it was named for, with an all-new low slung body and re-designed roof that made the car look like a cockpit. Reasonably priced yet with good performance statistics, the Spitfire has gained a cult following as a ‘boy’s own adventure’ sports car, allowing thousands to own and run a classic relatively inexpensively, yet with all the thrill and excitement that it entails. Selling all the way into the 1980s, the Spitfire is a favourite at Triumph owners’ meetings, and a familiar sight at country inns on sunny days, as owners live out their own driving fantasies.
At The Carrosserie Company we love working on little slices of history like the Triumph Spitfire, and we firmly believe that each and every one deserves that same level of care and attention, using heritage techniques and pinpoint accuracy. Our skilled craftsmen have years of experience working with each and every Triumph Spitfire model, so we can carry out any and every repair or restoration job, from the biggest to the smallest. Whether your Spitfire needs minor bodywork, electrical repairs or a full nut and bolt re-build, your masterpiece is in safe hands when you entrust it to our craftsmen and engineers.
