The Project

This 1964 Jaguar Mk2 Automatic came to Carrosserie HQ in September 2022. It travelled all the way from California for a full nut and bolt restoration.

12th October 2022: Engine restoration has begun. This includes – Crank reground, con rods re-machined, new white metal bearings made, new cylinder liners, pistons machined twice, new cam shafts, new oil pump drives.

27th October 2022: Strip to bodywork has started and parts identified for localised shot blasting. Doors will be fully shotblasted.

1st December 2022: Bodywork has been stripped and prepared to be sent for the next stage of shotblasting.

19th January 2023: Back from shot blasting and red primer applied. Bodywork repairs will begin including the right front quarter which has quite a lot of damage, straightening of the front end and various other areas that shotblasting have shown up for repair. Various parts of subframe and suspension being repaired and painted.

7th March 2024: Work recommences on this full restoration project. The right front quarter has been replaced and the light plinth is being welded back in prior to lead loading.

> More updates to follow.

Built between 1959 and 1967, the Jaguar Mark 2 offered consumers a superb balance of luxury, comfort, and impressive performance. The Mark 2 quickly earned a reputation for its performance, even serving as a trusty motorway patrol car for the police force. In this 3.8L guise, the MK2 would also go on to see considerable motorsport success, with notable victories in both the European and Australian touring car championships.

Just shy of 84 thousand units were said to have been produced, with the 3.8L model accounting for the majority of the production run. Although the MK2 3.8L proved to be quite a commercial success, a great deal of these classic Jags have indeed fallen to age, with many now lost forever.
