The Project

This 1966 Jaguar E-type 2+2 arrived at Carrosserie HQ in May 2022 for a full body and paintwork restoration.

12th October 2022: Paintwork stripped. Repair work has begun on rear quarters due to rust.

27th October 2022: Work continues on the rear quarter replacements and new boot floor being installed.

19th January 2023: Primer coats have been applied and prep for final paint has started.

30th March 2023: Body and doors sprayed in Sherwood green.

30th August 2023: Chrome work has started to be added, along with the exhaust system being reconnected. Engine up and running again, but no work has been carried out on this. The main work has been done to the back end, including boot floor, wings, and fuel tank due to corrosion, most of this has had to be replaced. Then the bodywork has been stripped of the old paint, filled, and resprayed.

The Jaguar E-Type, or the Jaguar XK-E for the North American market, is a British front mid-engined sports car that was manufactured by Jaguar Cars Ltd from 1961 to 1974. Its combination of exceptional aesthetics, advanced technologies, high performance, and competitive pricing established the model as an icon of the motoring world. The E-Type’s claimed 150 miles per hour (240 km/h) top speed, sub-7-second 0 to 60 mph (97 km/h) acceleration, largely unitary body construction, front and rear independent suspension with disc brakes, mounted inboard at the rear, and rack-and-pinion steering, distinguished the car and spurred industry-wide changes.

The E-Type was based on Jaguar’s D-Type racing car, which had won the 24 Hours of Le Mans for three consecutive years beginning in 1955.

A 2+2 version of the fastback coupé was added in 1966. The 2+2 offered the option of an automatic transmission. The body is 9 inches (229 mm) longer and the roof angles are different. The roadster and the non 2+2 FHC (Fixed Head Coupé) remained as two-seaters.
