The Project

This magnificent 1939 Lagonda LG6 returned to our workshop for some maintenance and cosmetic works after previously being fully restored by Carrosserie.

13th February 2025: Rear suspension work needed to repair shock absorber mount. Engine serviced. Electrical work. Radiator cover dents removed and then re-chromed. New set of Blockley tyres fitted.

4th April 2025: The car has come back into the workshop as it had been losing power when it was being driven. The head has been taken off and the head gasket has failed, so that will need to be repaired. The car has never had the valve seats converted to unleaded so this will also be done at the same time.

The LG.6 and V12 debuted to great acclaim at the 1937 Earls Court Motor Show, and went on sale the following year. Like its big brother, the LG.6 was available in different chassis lengths, and with a number of open and closed body styles on offer–among the cataloged were open Tourer and Drop Head Coupé, partially open Sedanca de Ville and closed Saloon–the cars ranged in weight from 4,000 to more than 5,000 pounds.

These new Lagondas were world-class luxury cars with the modern power and tractability to ensure they were competent in any situation, like their more expensive Rolls-Royce and Bentley counterparts. This marque traded on its famous technical director’s good name, their spiral-bound 1939 showroom brochure’s cover reading “Lagonda Cars for 1939 by W.O. Bentley.”

Bentley was no stranger to Le Mans, and his V-12 proved its competition mettle in France in 1939, with the two V12s entered taking first in category, third and fourth overall places. Indeed, a better-prepared entry was planned for the 1940 Le Mans endurance race, which the war precluded. The V12 was also a prestigious sales success, with 185 examples built. The less expensive LG.6 was a slower seller, only 82 having left the Staines factory before World War II curtailed automotive production in 1940; of them, 67 LG.6s rode on the short 127½-inch chassis, while 18 used the long 135½-inch chassis. 50 LG.6s are known to survive.

Friendly, helpful, extremely knowledgeable, patient enough to explain the processes and reasons for doing things and highlighted even more how approachable the team are. They tried to accommodate our needs and requests to get our beloved old riley back on the road as soon as possible despite the ups and downs that were thrown our way and into the teams path! We could not have wished to deal with a more personable company after encountering some other teams that really made a botch of stuff, seemed uncommitted and were not professional at all. Carrosserie as a team were totally the opposite . . would we recommend them ? ABSOLUTELY !!! We would not go anywhere else now, THANK YOU TO Steve, Neil, Graham and Nicola . . Oh and Karen who spilled the beans about the the birthday surprised to my partner (whose car it is ) . but made the experience all the more special when a bottle of wine was presented as well as a treat to Simon for his birthday AND made it all the more worth dealing with the team ! THANK YOU AGAIN !!!

My car was the subject of some body and paint repairs here in Spring 2024, to address corrosion plus some substandard paintwork. An annual service was also carried out. There was good responsive communications, advice, and attention to detail throughout, to ensure a high quality, durable result, with the final paintwork being indistinguishable from factory finish, and easily better than any franchised dealership repairs. If you are invested in your classic car, want to make it last, with an exemplary finish to be proud of, then you need look no further.

I can't recommend Carrosserie highly enough, the service was exemplary from start to finish and the workmanship is second to none. I highly recommend giving the team a call for any work you need doing to your classic car, no matter what it is, you will not be disappointed!
