The Project

25th April 2024: Engine stripped of ancillaries. New clutch. Gearbox taken out of the car, bellhousing drilled and tapped to 7/16 on damaged cylinder mounting thread. Core plugs taken out heater and flywheel removed.

1st May 2024: The engine and engine bay have been painted.

> More updates to follow.

The Wolseley 6/90 arrived in 1954 to replace the Wolseley 6/80 a year later than the related Riley Pathfinder, but unlike the Riley, the Wolseley 6/90 was to be the first recipient of the new 2,639cc ‘C’ Series 6 cylinder engine which continued to be used in the large BMC cars of the late 1950’s and 60’s.

Unlike the 4/44 the 6/90 used a separate chassis of a sturdy cross-braced box section chassis frame.

The 6/90 Series I featured a column gear change and coil springs for the rear suspension, whilst the later Series II (1956-57) and Series III featured the gear change to the right of the driver, with the rear suspension being semi-elliptical springs. The short lived Series II was replaced by the Series III identifiable by its much larger wrap around rear screen.

5,766 Series I were produced, with only 1,024 Series II produced during its 8 month period, and 5,052 Series III concluding the production run in 1959.
