The Project

This JDM classic came into our Bishop Auckland workshop in July 2025 for a general overhaul to get it back on the road.

16th July 2025: Mainly in for engine servicing to get it up and running. Some interior works will also be carried out.

4th August 2025: The engine is running but with a knock which will required further investigation. Engine strip investigation found play in the pistons, 2 and 6 are the worst. It will require a full engine strip. Two of the head bolts have been helicoiled in the past. The engine will require removal and assessment. Rear silencer has bad corrosion and the engine is also over full of engine oil.

> More updates to follow.

The Nissan President was a full-size luxury sedan produced by Nissan, primarily for the Japanese domestic market. Here’s a plain-text history of the 1970s-era Nissan President:

  • Introduction: The Nissan President was first introduced in 1965 as Nissan’s flagship luxury vehicle, competing with the Toyota Century. It was aimed at government officials, corporate executives, and dignitaries.
  • First Generation (150 series, 1965–1973):
    • Continued into the early 1970s with modest updates.
    • Offered luxurious features like power windows, advanced air conditioning, and high-end upholstery.
    • Engine options included a 4.0L Y40 V8 engine and a 3.0L straight-six.
    • Focused on rear passenger comfort, with options like a partition window and power-adjustable rear seats.
  • Second Generation (250 series, 1973–1990):
    • Introduced in 1973, this generation modernised the styling with a more squared-off, formal design.
    • Featured a longer wheelbase and larger body to enhance rear-seat comfort.
    • Continued use of the 4.4L Y44 V8 engine (upgraded version of the Y40).
    • Technological updates included electronic fuel injection in later years, automatic climate control, and enhanced safety features.
    • Despite being very advanced for its time, it remained a low-production model due to its niche market.
  • Market Role:
    • Rarely exported; primarily sold in Japan.
    • Frequently used as official government vehicles and by the Imperial Household.
    • Nissan did not heavily promote it overseas, as luxury exports were dominated by Western brands
