The 1995 Volkswagen Corrado Storm VR6 was one of the most desirable performance coupés of the 1990s, combining sharp styling, impressive engineering and a wonderfully characterful six-cylinder engine. As a limited-edition model produced exclusively for the British market, the Storm represented the final chapter in the Corrado’s story and has since become one of the most sought-after modern classic Volkswagens.
The Volkswagen Corrado was first introduced in 1988 as a stylish, sporting coupé designed to sit above the popular Scirocco. Built by Karmann in Osnabrück, Germany, the Corrado shared some of its mechanical foundations with the Volkswagen Golf but offered a much more distinctive appearance and a considerably more sporting driving experience. With its low nose, muscular wheelarches, sloping roofline and distinctive rear spoiler, it was a car that stood out from the crowd.
Early Corrado models were offered with a choice of four-cylinder engines, including the lively 1.8-litre 16-valve and the supercharged G60. Both were enjoyable to drive, but it was the introduction of the VR6 in 1992 that really transformed the car. Volkswagen’s innovative narrow-angle six-cylinder engine gave the Corrado the performance and refinement to compete with considerably more expensive sports coupés.
The 2.9-litre VR6 engine was a particularly clever piece of engineering. Unlike a conventional V6, its two banks of cylinders were arranged at a narrow 15-degree angle, allowing the engine to use a single cylinder head and fit into a relatively compact engine bay. Producing around 190 bhp, it delivered strong acceleration, smooth power and a distinctive exhaust note that quickly became one of the Corrado’s defining characteristics.
By 1995, the Corrado was approaching the end of its production life, and Volkswagen decided to mark the occasion with something special. The result was the Corrado Storm, a limited-edition version of the VR6 created specifically for the UK market. Just 500 examples were officially produced, making it an exclusive model even when new. Of these, 250 were finished in Mystic Blue Pearl Effect with black leather upholstery, while the remaining 250 were painted Classic Green Pearl Effect with contrasting light beige leather.
The Storm featured a number of special touches that set it apart from the standard VR6. These included distinctive 15-inch BBS Solitude alloy wheels, a colour-coded front grille, subtle red Storm badging and a particularly generous level of standard equipment. Inside, the car came with leather upholstery, heated front sports seats and a well-appointed cabin that combined Volkswagen’s familiar build quality with a more luxurious feel.
One of the Corrado’s most memorable features was its electronically operated rear spoiler, which automatically raised at higher speeds to improve aerodynamic stability. It was an unusual feature for a Volkswagen at the time and gave the car an extra touch of sporting character. Combined with its purposeful stance and clean, understated styling, the Corrado looked every bit the serious performance coupé.
On the road, the Storm VR6 was a genuinely quick and capable car. Its 2.9-litre engine could propel it from 0 to 60 mph in around 6.5 seconds, with a top speed approaching 145 mph. More importantly, it delivered its performance in a smooth and effortless way, with plenty of pulling power throughout the rev range. The five-speed manual gearbox was particularly well suited to the engine, making the Corrado equally enjoyable on winding country roads and longer motorway journeys.
Handling was another of the Corrado’s strong points. With responsive steering, a well-balanced chassis and excellent road holding, it offered a driving experience that was both engaging and reassuring. Despite being front-wheel drive, the VR6 managed its power remarkably well, earning praise from motoring journalists for its combination of performance, refinement and everyday usability.
Although the Corrado was widely admired by enthusiasts and the motoring press, it was never a particularly big seller. Its relatively high purchase price placed it close to more prestigious sports cars, making it a difficult choice for some buyers. Nevertheless, those who appreciated its engineering, performance and distinctive character recognised that it offered something rather special.
Production of the Volkswagen Corrado came to an end in 1995, with the Storm serving as a fitting farewell to one of the company’s most interesting performance models. Unlike many sporting Volkswagens, the Corrado had no direct replacement, which only added to its appeal in the years that followed.
Today, the 1995 Volkswagen Corrado Storm VR6 is regarded as one of the finest modern classic Volkswagens. Its limited production numbers, distinctive colour combinations and superb six-cylinder engine have made it particularly desirable among collectors and enthusiasts. With its timeless styling, excellent driving characteristics and unmistakable VR6 soundtrack, the Storm remains a brilliant reminder of an era when Volkswagen was prepared to build something a little different, and something genuinely exciting.

I recently had corrosion repairs carried out to both front wings on my Porsche 944 and I am extremely pleased with the quality of the workmanship. The repairs involved cutting out the corroded sections and fabricating replacement metalwork rather than simply filling over the affected areas. The standard of fabrication and welding is excellent, with the repairs blending seamlessly into the original panels. The attention to detail is evident throughout the work, and the finished result looks completely in keeping with the car. As an owner of a classic Porsche, preserving originality is important to me, and the repairs have been completed in a way that maintains the character and integrity of the vehicle. The paint finish and panel presentation are superb, and once completed it is virtually impossible to tell where the repairs have been carried out. Overall, the craftsmanship is first-class and the car now looks significantly better than it did before the work was undertaken. If you are looking for high-quality metal fabrication and restoration work on a classic vehicle, I would have no hesitation in recommending them based on the quality of the finished product.Posted on Google

Brakes, suspension, springs, shocks, general overhaul - some gaskets, polish etc. All staff very welcoming, professional from office staff to engineers. Took me through the car's inspection - lots of photos of work to be done, progress and work finished. Kept in touch via e-mail throughout project. Neil who owns the company straight away gave me one of the best buying experiences I have ever had. He was nice to speak with giving me confidence in buying from him from the outset. This continued throughout the buying process with updates on the process of finance that he organised. Because of my working schedule being so hectic and having to juggle many parental duties. We were unable to get over to pick up the car in the week. Despite the company being closed on weekends, Neil went out of his way to meet me on a Saturday afternoon and even showed me around his amazing company. It was so clear to me that this is someone who is genuine, kind and cares about his company and customers in equal amounts. A truly rare thing in this day in age. I wouldn't hesitate to use his company myself in the future and would recommend him to friends and family in a heartbeat.Posted on Google
