RANGE ROVER Restoration

Originally designed as a performance upgrade to the iconic and highly respected Land Rover, the Range Rover wasn’t always the luxury four wheel drive we know today.

Introducing some more modern features to the stalwart classic, the Range Rover boasted four disc braking, coil springs and a V8 engine, but not air conditioning and power steering until later models were released. These upgrades and creature comforts proved so popular among everyday consumers that Land Rover eventually decided to head down the luxury route in 1996, but the Range Rover Classic remains a reminder of the days when the marque still had its boots firmly in the mud.

So it’s a later classic, but for many the Range Rover Classic remains the vehicle that transformed the marque from an agricultural tool to a real driver’s car. Equally at home in Morningside as on the mountainside, the Range Rover combined all of the excellent features that made the Land Rover such capable off-road vehicles with a new design and some high end touches that blew consumers away in the 1970s. The beefy V8 made this one of the first four wheel drive cars that could top 100mph, but air powered suspension made it feather light to drive on the road, so drivers got the best of both worlds.

It’s that double life that has made the Range Rover Classic such a popular drive among connoisseurs today, those who feel the four wheel drive market has lost its guts since luxury options became all the rage, but who still want a little bit more comfort than a Defender can give them. But it’s also what has taken its toll on many of the best examples, where constant us in wind, rain and mud has caused damage. We can bring your Range Rover Classic back to life again using the latest techniques, and with the benefit of a skilled hand and an expert eye.
