The Jensen Interceptor was quite a car.
Handbuilt by Jensen in West Bromwich from 1966-76.
It started life with a Chrysler 6.3l V8 producing 270HP. Over time regulations strangled the power, so then they upgraded to a 7.2l (!) version. Sadly the 70’s petrol crisis and following recession saw the end of demand for thirsty engines like that.
In the end only 6,408 were produced. Not that many.
I have written about the FF 4WD version with an FF (Ferguson Formula) drive system and Dunlop Maxaret mechanical anti-lock brakes – borrowed from planes.
I’m sure you don’t need reminding that cars with an interesting story and or famous owners can often fetch more.
So here, coming up for auction on the 25th July, is an Interceptor III sold new to John Bonham, drummer for Led Zeppelin.
It looks wonderful for having had an £83k restoration from 2020-23 and is expected to fetch £40-50k.
