Now you may have jumped to that great short film of Daniel Craig and the actual Queen made for the 2012 Olympic opening ceremony.  Wow, 14 years ago.

But no, today I’m talking about the staggering effect that celebrities have on the value of cars.  Wonderful Hagerty have done the analysis in their Power List.

Sadly the most recent is from Oct 2024, hopefully an update is on the way?

Anyway, James Bond is at the top of the list – I don’t think that will surprise anyone.  The number of Silver DB5s sold at crazy prices is all the evidence you need.

Our Queen, she only makes the list at number 7, actually.

Second place belongs to Paul Walker, also now deceased, of the Fast & Furious films.

Their own blurb describes the criteria:

Welcome to the Hagerty Power List, which highlights the actors, musicians, members of royalty, movies, TV shows, and other celebrities that have had the biggest impact on car values.

As usual, our team set a few boundaries: Pure racing cars are ruled out, as we don’t believe the added value created by the driver can be differentiated from the kudos of the races won in the car, and they often had more than one driver. We’ve also removed advertised values of cars, unless Hagerty knows for definite what it sold for.

That, as always, is a key benefit with Hagerty.  Because their main business is insuring classic cars, value is at the heart of it.  So they see the invoices to prove actual transaction values.  Vital in this world to avoid the sometimes crazy asking prices.

I guess what aren’t included are the occasional cars with famous owners that don’t really sell for much more.  The ‘Attention Bias’ as my Psychology daughter reminds me, is well at play here!

But don’t let that detract from it.  Here is the full article with all the stats.
